Contents page review
I have
selected a contents page from Q expressing the types of pages in the magazine
using advertisements of new bands and different stuff which may interest the
audience
Firstly the
house style of the magazine is professional as the way it is set out is very
clear and understandable for the audience/market. The colours are contrasting
as they are also used all around the page rather than in one area to show a
highly skilled effect. The connotations of the colour selection is red and
white as it represents the colours of the Q logo being used throughout the
magazine. The red colour may signify glory/blood as all their time and effort
has been put into the music what they advertise. Another point is that the two
colours stand out well together being very clear. The fount has repetitively
been kept the same but when an important feature is introduced the font goes
bold giving a gesture that it is important and you must read it.The text is
placed on the left hand side as everyone reads from the left therefore it’s
easy to find when navigating the picture. Overall the font is clear and simple
which is very effective and useful.
The long
shot picture of the band being very large highlights out that the page they’re
on will be important due to the amount of space taken in the contents page. The
large image may connotes that they will be touring and wanting to sell their
new album by displaying it to the audience. The images have been placed this
way as people tend to read from left to right therefore it will be focused on
when viewing the page. The use of long shot images mainly expresses the band as
a whole rather than a close up which shows emotion. This has been done to
promote rather than giving off some sort of message.
The white/
grey background has been used purely so the text is easier to see .The white
also suits the style of the picture and the way it has been set out. Using
white may be plain and simple but in most cases it looks the most professional
and suitable for the audience because when using bright background colours it
can give off a cheap look about it
Contents
pages usually look very simple to allow the audience to navigate the different
types of pages easily. The numbers show the page the image/text is on therefore
if not interested in reading the whole magazine you can skip to specific types
of genre you’re interested in. Many images are not usually put on the contexts
page as the main cover of the magazine produce that this is purely for help to
get around the page knowing where each section is during the magazine.
To sum up, I
personally think the contents page above is very useful and has a great effect
to the style it has been set out. The contrasting colours draw attention giving
a sharp effect. The page is easy to navigate and the text is visible during my
magazine cover I will hopefully exceed giving a smart sophisticated look like
on this contents page.

AQUINAS contents page-final product
Overall i thought my contents page was a success due to the fact it looked quite proffessional and also attractive. The features i thought looked good was the main image as it is very eye grabbing and different. The font is different to many normal contents features therefore it give a quite unsual look.On the otherhand, the magazine looked abit plain as there couldve been more images and writing to draw the audience in.The backround could also have followed on from the front page following the housestyle features.Overall i enjoyed making my contents page but next time i should follow out my flat plan as it will be easier to produce.

AQUINAS magazine cover-final product
I believe my Aquinas magazine cover was a success as i used all conventions correctly all being effective in my work. The housestyle colours we are success as the vibrant colours of red, white and black compliment eachother being simple and easy to read. The main image is eye catching as the mid shot was focused to show emotion towards the audience.
On the otherhand, the features i think could be better are the fact that the lack of photos used make the cover look dull and not as interesting to look at.more writing could be used to entertain the audience and brighter colours.
Overall,i enjoyed making the magazine front cover next time i will add more images making the font brighter and more interesting to view.
Double page spread review
This double page spread was an article produced by NME this
was purely made to persuade and entertain the audience about the new up and
coming album ’beady eye ‘have produced. The age range for this would be
teenagers/adults due to the fact Liam Gallagher has had a past with the media
and press etc. so some bad language may have been used.
The anchorage used firstly on the image is black and white
the colours contrast very well giving off a very professional look. The black
and white have also been used as they’re complimentary colours which may
symbolise many things. The connotations used on the picture highlight out that
due to the fact Liam Gallagher is the main man he wants to be recognised as the
colours give him a classy retro look guiding you to what his personality is
like the way he is dressed etc. Black and white may also symbolise rock and
roll and the fact that Liam Gallagher was so influential in it may give some
effect. The Masthead anchorage is blue and yellow which stands out showing the
importance of the band. The blue and yellow may connote his favourite football
teams colours as he is a major Manchester city fan therefore he may want to
express his love for Beady eye and Manchester city in one title.
The text has been styled to the right hand side making the
double page spread look very neat and unique considering they’re promoting a
new band. The image has been placed to the left hand side separate from the
text so it’s clear to see and not in the way of the writing. The text
highlighted symbolises that they’re the most important piece of text as in this
case it is a quote said by Liam Gallagher. The letter T has been highlighted
out and made bold so the audience will know where they have to start from when
reading the actual text .Borders have been provided so the audience can
navigate around the page easier and simpler. The font throughout the article is
the same size throughout being very consistent. Large font sizes are added in
on the masthead and important promotions/prizes.
The close up shot taken on the main image shows his facial
expression to not be phased in some sort of way. The way Liam Gallagher is
positioned gives off a point of view that he’s very arrogant and wants the
best. Not including the band in the image once again shows it is all about him
as if he wants all the spot light to himself.
The white/ grey background has been used purely so the text
is easier to see .The white also suits the style of the picture and the way it
has been set out. Using white may be plain and simple but in most cases it
looks the most professional and suitable for the audience because when using
bright background colours it can give off a cheap look about it.The impression
Liam wants to give about his band is not all about happiness but
professionalism as it is about the music and that is the most important thing.
Overall, I have wrote this review to show the different
types of techniques used during this doublepage spread. The techniques used
will help me to be able to write a double page spread and be successful at it.

analysing NME front cover
The colour scheme used on the front of the magazine for Nme is usually Red, black and white but on this occasion it is Pink white and black to represent the album cover of the vaccines as if they’re trying to promote it.The colour scheme is very consistent giving the Front cover a classy retro look to it.The denotations represent the album cover having two contrasting colours of black and white making the white stand out to give some sort of effect. The colours may give off a formal professional look as if the vaccines are trying to promote something. The pink may also symbolise happiness/summer as it was issued at that time of the year. The use of polysemy conveys loyalness to the fans that they’re back and look more professional than ever before. This is shown as the colours develop on the front cover and the position the band are currently stood.
The main image is a long shot which may express that every band member is important as each other as they’re bestfriends. The image is placed in the centre to catch the audience’s attention as the main article is all about them. The main image also has a bleed as two of the band members heads are over the actual Brand Nme as this Is some sort of limited edition magazine. The secondary images are used to promote posters as the magazine is stating that it is all about the vaccines. The secondary images are placed next to each other to give a variety of interesting posters of what you can see in the actual magazine-e.g New York dolls. The anchorage used indicates the name of the band and also tells you in basic phrases why they are shown as the importance of the front cover. The body position of the vaccines interprets that they mean business and their music isn’t an act they just do what they love best.
The font size is very bold being consistent throughout as the larger size font shows the more important feature of the magazine. However, the change in colour of the writing may draw more attention as having it all the same colour maybe boring and very dull. The language used is very direct and formal being associated with the category of music but the target audience would strictly be teenagers- middle age people as the language is too formal for younger children.
The images are layed out without any backgrounds as they contain bleeds overall they also don’t have background as the images show emotion and motion so it gives more of a greater effect on the reader. The images consistently don’t contain a frame as it is the sort of style they wanted to display
The magazine has been directly done to inform and entertain the audience about the latest music and gossip around the world as many people to this day purely buy them just for their unique front covers and posters.

Rule of Thirds

The rule of thirds is mainly used for photography. Photos are divided into thirds with two lines vertically and two lines horizontally making 3 columns,3 rows and nine sections in the images.During a close up points of interest should occur during 1/3 or 2/3 of the way up in the frame as you can particularly focus on the main features such as the eyes etc.
